The Balmain Water Polo Club (BWPC) supports the YES vote at the upcoming federal referendum on a First Nations Voice to Parliament.
The BWPC has a proud history of community, equality and inclusion. Two of the clubs former and current members are Australian Water Polo Indigenous Olympians. Dean Semmens (Athens 2004) had an extensive playing career at the club and along with Nathan Thomas (Sydney2000 & Athens 2004) coach in the Australian Water Polo League.
Nathan Thomas, member of the Australian Olympic Committee’s Indigenous Advisory Committee and BWPC coach said in relation to the upcoming referendum, “It is time we recognised the oldest living culture in the world in our constitution, its time Indigenous peoples had a way to influence and help inform policy that impact their lives, it’s time to vote YES”.
BWPC, founded in 1884, is the oldest water polo club and one of the oldest sporting clubs in Australia. The BWPC’s strength are its community, its inclusiveness, its family-friendly grassroots development environment that offers wonderful social and high-performance opportunities to all members.
