Dawn Fraser Baths

Dawn Fraser Baths

Dawn Fraser Baths is home to the UTS Balmain Water Polo Club. The first game of water polo in Australia was played at these baths (circa 1888) and hosts our club, National and International Water Polo events.

Built in the early 1880’s, Dawn Fraser Baths, located in Elkington Park in Balmain, is the oldest pool and swimming club in Australia. A Heritage Building on the National Trust and on the Register of the National Estate, renovated and preserved for future generations, the amenities give the best of both worlds.

The baths are a tidal flow saltwater harbor pool, operating seasonally between October and Easter. At low tide we even have a beach for the children to build sandcastles. Solar heating ensures hot water in the showers and the kiosk serves hot food, snacks, ice creams and cappuccinos.

Our Balmain Swimming Club, is the oldest in Australia, and meets for all ages, from juniors to ‘Golden Oldies’, every Saturday afternoon during the summer season. So come along and keep our oldest swim club alive!

Water quality at Dawn Fraser Baths is subject to overall Sydney harbor conditions and is reported daily by Harbourwatch. After heavy rain, our pool, like other swimming locations such as beaches, may be closed if the water quality is not to standard. The pool is only re-opened after water quality has been approved by Harbourwatch. General water temperature between October and April is 19°C – 23°C.

The Baths are available for after hours function hire (conditions apply). So too is a marquee, prices on application. A great location for a unique and memorable way to celebrate an occasion and create an atmosphere with a difference.
