Update From London

British National League

Hi from London, where it is finally starting to warm up – and my 1st season playing for London Otter is coming to an end. So far, it’s been interesting.

The British National League kicked off back in October with an 8-team robin over 3 weekends. We finished in 4th – which was one spot lower than we were aiming for, but good enough to see us progress into the “Super 5s” for the second half of the season.

The Super 5s, made up of the top 5 teams – Manchester, Liverpool, London Penguins, London Otter (My team) and Coventry, was kind of a bit like the Sydney summer comp, back when there were only 4 teams that played each other over and over again… but without the sun, sausage rolls, or any Dawny home games to look forward to.

After playing each team twice, we finished the season last weekend in Cardiff in 3rd place which gave us a good seeding for in next weekends British Championships and secured our place in the European LEN Trophy for next year.

Anyway – off to Manchester next weekend for British champs. 1st game on Saturday is against 2nd placed Liverpool with the winner progressing to the final where they will play the winner of the 1st v 4th match (Manchester v London Penguins). The losers will play off for 3rd… but I’m kind of hoping we can beat Liverpool (for the first time ever) and play in the final instead. It’s a long shot. But will let you know how we go.
