Update From London (Pt 2)

LEN Trophy

Back in November my team, London Otter, played in 2011/2012 LEN Trophy. It was the first time my team had ever qualified to play in Europe and it was definitely a learning experience. Our first round was played in Patras, home of Bre Appels Greek team. We lost convincingly 16-3(?) to Bre’s team Patras in the opening game, lost REALLY convincingly to Padova (Italy), improved a lot against the Spanish team Zaragoza to loose by only a few, before going on to beat the Isrealis in our final game of the round. This one win, surprisingly enough, got us through to the next round of the competition which was being held in Imperia two weeks later.

If our losses in Patras were disheartening then the games in Imperia were demoralising. We lost all 3 games, against Olymiakos (Greece), Imperia (Italy) & a really angry Russian team SKIF Moscow and we lost them badly. Thankfully there was delicious food, brilliant weather, and a lovely venue to ease the pain. (The pool was down on the Marina with all the super yachts!?!) While it was a good experience, I can’t help thinking that it would be a lot of fun to play the same tournament again, but for the Tigers. Ah well. Maybe we’ll do better next year.
